       Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (DBMB) was established in 2010 the Riverside Transit Campus, Padannakkad to promote education and research in the area of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. It is developing into a state of the art facility for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. It has introduced an interdisciplinary programme through a flexible curriculum, and admits 16 students for MSc (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology), and 6 students for MPhil/PhD in (Biochemistry).The academic as well as the research activities of the Department got additional momentum by the induction of three regular faculty in 2011, with excellente xposure at global level. They steer the current teaching and research activities of the Department to unravel the basic questions in the diverse but complementary areas of biology such as angiogenesis, cell signaling, protein biochemistry and molecular virology. The Department is constantly evolving as an advanced research hub in the areas of basic aswell as applied Biochemist ry and Molecular Biology.Current ly, the Department houses laboratories equipped with instruments and equipment such as HPLC, Ultrac entrifuge,CO incubators, Gradient PCR 2machines, Gel doc, -80oC freezers, fluorescent and light microscopes, etc. The process for the procurement of FPLC, RealTime PCR, Spectrofluorimeter, multi mode plate reader and Biosafety Class II Cabinet is under way. The merge of instrument also phistication and intellect would evolve the Department asa full-fledged hub to train young minds and conduct cutting edgeresearch in the modern areas of biochemistry and molgy.
