Department of Environmental Science


       The Department of Environmental Science was established in 2012 with the objective to address local, national and international environmental problems by educating future generations about the issues and nurturing best environmental practices by preaching, practising and therefore serving generations to come. The Department offers Master and Doctoral programme in Environmental Science.

       The department envisages doing transformative and innovative research in the interdisciplinary fields of environmental science and technology. The department would, in the time to come, align and work towards sustainable development goals of the nation. The faculty have diverse research interests and are well-known scientists in their field of interest with international exposure and acclaim. The core emphasis of the department is in Environmental Chemistry, Ecology, Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Environmental Biotechnology and Microbiology, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Engineering.

       The faculty practise novel teaching methods and assess students based on their overall development. The department thrives to organize regular field-work, co-curricular and extension activities to give students a holistic exposure. The faculty encourage students to take up opportunities in their sector of interest, giving equal and special emphasis to each of the various options available to the students of Environmental Science. The students can also advantage of various associations and organizations which operate out of the department like Placement Cell, Alumni Association and Prakruti – an eco-club.

       Develop minds to unravel national and international environmental issues, cater the environmental technology sector with skilled, creative manpower; and extend our activities to service the society through:

  • Innovative, interdisciplinary and transformative research in environmental science and technology
  • Holistic education to develop environmental leaders & solution seekers.
  • Outreach and collaboration with all stakeholders in environmental science, engineering and policy
  • Creating public awareness on natural resources; and past, present and future environmental constraints on Earth
