Department of Malayalam
The Department of Malayalam (2015), is the 18th Department of study and research, set up under the Central University of Kerala. With Malayalam being conferred the status of a classical language, there has been a renewed interest in the study of the language the world over. This Department aims to conduct authentic study and research on Malayalam language, literature and Kerala culture. The contribution of Malayalam language, literature and the culture of Kerala to Indian nationalism, and the status of Malayalam literature in the context of world literature are some of the areas of research in this department. This Department undertakes studies with the aid of modern research techniques, with a view to sharing the results with the public and the academia. Dr. AM Unnikrishnan, Associate Professor, University of Kerala, who had been invited to head this new department, took charge on 12th August 2015. On 16th September 2015, at a function presided over by Prof. (Dr.) G Gopakumar, Vice Chancellor, the noted poet Prof V Madhusoodananan Nair inaugurated this Department, which has started its functioning with the conduct of the first year MA classes, with a full intake of 25 students
