School of Medicine and Public Health
School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) was created in the year 2016 with the aim of achieving excellence in the areas of medicine and public health.
There are two departments in the school: Department of Public Health and Community Medicine and the department of Yoga Studies. The SMPH offers a PhD program in Public Health, Two Masters programmes; Master of Public Health and Master of Yoga Studies and a post graduate diploma in Yoga.
Public health and policy research in the areas of health in general and public health in particular are being undertaken by the school. A major research project titled “ Lifestyle modification to facilitate regression to normoglycemia among women with isolated impaired fasting glucose in Kasaragod, Kerala: A randomized controlled trial” is funded (INR15.8 million) by the Department of Biotechnology /Wellcome Trust India alliance. Another project titled “Impact of COVID-19 on mental health: A study on common mental disorders among women in Kerala, India” is funded (INR 1.4 million) by the National Commission for Women
