Brief Profile

Dr. Sijin Kumar obtained his Master’s degree in Geology from Kannur University with a gold medal and a PhD from CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. 

Dr. Sijin Kumar has been working as Assistant Professor at the Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Geology, Govt. College Kasaragod in 2007 and joined the Central University of Kerala in August 2016. Prior to these, he worked as a Scientific Officer-C at Dept. of Atomic Energy, Atomic Mineral Directorate, Hyderabad. 

Dr. Sijinkumar has been awarded the Prestigious Raman Fellowship and worked as Visiting Assistant Professor (Research)/Postdoctoral Fellow at Dept. of Earth and Planetary Science, Brown University, USA in the year 2014-2015. Dr. Kumar also worked as short-term Post Doctoral Fellow at GEOMAR, Germany (FLAIR Short Term Visit, 2016).
Dr. Sijinkumar research focuses on the reconstruction of late Quaternary Indian monsoon variability and Paleoceanography of the Indian Ocean by using microfossils (Pteropods, planktonic and benthic foraminifera) and geochemical proxies (stable isotopes and trace metal chemistry of carbonate shells). The causes and mechanisms of past fluctuations are investigated for anticipating future changes by analyzing climate model simulations.
