Ashalekshmi B.S has specialisation in e-governance. Her areas of interest include Women and Governance, Good Governance, Urban Governance and Research Methodology. She has one ICSSR sponsored Major Research Project titled E-governance and Socio-Economic Development in Kerala: A Study on Akshaya Project'. She is associating with various reputed institutions as consultant in the area of governance. She is a Subject Matter Expert of Public Administration in Tata Consultancy, Mumbai. She is the Chairperson of the Social Impact Assessment Committee for Land Acquisition in the district of Kasaragod. She is also an external expert for the programmes under the Kudumbashree District Mission, Kasaragod. She is an expert in the field of governance analysis. She is a recipient of  T.V Paul  Award for contributions as a Research Scholar in the University of Kerala in the field of Public Administration.
    She has some visual media experiences too as she was working as director and anchor for various women empowerment programmes on Television.
