Brief Profile
Dr. Efthikar Ahamed B. has been serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, Central University of Kerala, since 2015.
He holds a First Class M.A. in English (University of Calicut) and a First Class M.A. in Translation Studies (Annamalai University). He also earned a B.Ed. in English with First Class and Gold Medal, and subsequently qualified the UGC-NET in English.
His professional career includes international experience (1996–2005) as Lecturer in English and News Correspondent in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where he contributed to human-interest journalism and engaged in human resource development through teaching.
In 2005, he joined the Department of Higher Education, Government of Kerala through the Kerala Public Service Commission and served as Assistant Professor in the Postgraduate Departments of English at KMM Government Women’s College, Kannur and Government Brennen College, Thalassery until 2015.
Dr. Ahamed was awarded a Ph.D. in English by Kannur University in February 2014 for his research in Poetry and Comparative Studies.
His research interests encompass Modern Poetry, Gender Discourse, Posthumanism and Science Fiction, West Asian Literature, Film and Media Studies, Translation Studies, English Language Teaching (ELT), the New Media, Disability, Trauma and Memory Studies, and Medical Humanities.
His academic visits to countries such as the USA, UK, Germany, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the UAE, and Vietnam have significantly enriched his academic and research competencies.
He has taken on several administrative and extension roles, including NSS Programme Officer, Staff Advisor, and Hostel Warden. His notable Community Outreach initiative—a Six-Month Communicative English Programme for inmates of the Central Prison, Kannur—was widely recognized for its impact.
He has successfully supervised over 80 MA dissertations and 1 PhD thesis. Currently, 2 students are pursuing their PhD research under his guidance.
He has authored six books and published over three dozen scholarly articles.
“The Pride March,” a play by Dr. Ahamed exploring the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals, has been added to the distinguished collections of several leading institutions, including Columbia University in New York City, the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago Library, Duke University Libraries, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, among others.
He has presented research papers at numerous national and international seminars and conferences, both in India and abroad.
