Brief Profile
Dr. Gilbert Sebastian is an Assistant Professor at the Department of International Relations & Politics at the Central University of Kerala since Nov. 2015. He holds Doctorate and M.Phil. from Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Masters in Political Science from NEHU University, Shillong. Formerly, he has worked in research institutes in Delhi for four years and completed a two-year ICSSR Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram. As for his Publications, he is a co-author of the book, Weapon of the Oppressed: An Inventory of People’s Rights in India along with Manoranjan Mohanty, et al, which is a pioneering contribution as a guide for social activists and human rights defenders. He has published articles related to political economy and theory in journals like Indian Journal of Labour Economics, Economic and Political Weekly and elsewhere. He holds nearly six years of regular teaching experience at the Central University of Kerala where he has been teaching theoretically-oriented and political economy-related papers. He was the Convenor of a major all-India Conference on ‘India: Class and Its Intersectionalities’ in 2009 in New Delhi. He has presented many papers at all-India and international conferences, including one at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford. He has also had a track record of Democratic Rights activism especially in Delhi and has held the position of the General Secretary/Acting Secretary of CU Kerala Teachers’ Association for nearly four years.
