Brief Profile
Reinhart Philip is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations, Central University of Kerala, where he concurrently serves as the Coordinator for the Centre for Defence & Security Studies and the Office for International Affairs. He is an executive alumnus of Public Policy and Management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.
A recipient of UGC Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Political Science 2015, Reinhart did his B.A and M.A Degree in Political Science from the University of Kerala with Silver Medal and Gold Medal respectively; and M. Phil Degree in Politics and International Studies from the Pondicherry Central University with Gold Medal. He took his Doctoral Degree in Political Science on the topic “Globalisation, State and Commodification of Water: A Study of Jalanidhi Project in Kerala” from the University of Kerala with UGC Junior Research Fellowship. He is having additional masters in Public Administration (with UGC-NET) and Sociology, and a Diploma in English Journalism. He has also successfully completed a handful of courses related to environment, climate change, disaster management and intellectual property, offered by the UNDP, UNICEF, GFDRR, UNITAR, WIPO, NIDM, World Bank, Leiden University and American Museum of Natural History.
Reinhart is the author of the book “Water Governance in Kerala” (2015), Co-author of the book “Higher Bureaucracy and Social Change” (2014), Co-Editor of “Essays in Politics and Political Economy” (2020) and the author of more than 60 research papers, edited volumes and essays. He was the Project Director (2018-19) for an ICSSR Sponsored Minor Research Project entitled “Political Metamorphosis of Karma Yoga: Contemporary Relevance of the Socio-Political Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda”; Principal Investigator for a Small Grants Project on “Mitigating Human-Wildlife Conflict in Kerala: The Role of Indigenous Knowledge and Practices,” awarded by the Central University of Kerala (2022) and Principal Investigator and Coordinator of the IKS Sponsored Research ah Project on “The International Relations of the Chola Dynasty” (2022-24). He is a resource person for various institutes and is the Member of the Board of Question Paper Setter (Political Science) of various universities for UG, PG and PhD Programmes including their entrance examinations. He has organized around 100 programmes which include seminars, conferences, workshops, model events, special lectures, field visits, outreach programmes and orientation/induction programmes. He has also presented/delivered papers/invited lectures in more than 150 seminars/workshops etc. He is also the recipient of various national level scholarships, best paper presentation awards and winner of many national level essay competitions.
