Dr. K. Jayaprasad, with an academic career of 34 years is the Professor at the Department of International Relations & Politics & Dean, School of Global Studies; former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kerala; Dean, School of Cultural Studies (2015-2021); Head, Department of International Relations (2019-22) and Director, Mahatma Ayyankali Centre for Kerala Studies (2016-22), Central University of Kerala. Started his career as a UGC Research Associate in the Department of Politics, University of Kerala in 1991, he then joined the Sree Narayana College Thiruvananthapuram as Lecturer in Political Science, in 1994. While in service, he served as the Head of the Department of Politics, Sree Narayana College, Cherthala; became Reader in Political Science in 2003 and Associate Professor in 2006 at Sree Narayana College, Kollam, under University of Kerala. He was awarded PhD in Political Science for the title “Impact of Hindu Nationalism in Kerala Society and Politics: A Study of RSS,” from the University of Kerala in 1990. Prof. K Jayaprasad joined the Central University of Kerala, in 2014, as a Faculty at the Department of International Relations & Politics. He also served as Finance Officer (2014-16) and was a Member of the Executive Council, Central University of Kerala. He is also a Member of the Court, Member, Academic Council & Chairman, Board of Studies (IR & P) of Central University of Kerala. 

With twenty nine books authored/edited/contributed chapters, both in English and Malayalam and over 69 research articles, his contribution to the area of research is distinguishable. He is a popular figure in media, a columnist and an active participant of various debates and on-air discussions. His publications in various newspapers and journals would count upto a number of more than 450. He was the Editor of the Research Journal Pragathi (2007-2018) and is also the Associate Editor of South Asian Journal of Socio Political Studies (SAJOSPS). His publications include areas related to Education, International Politics, Human Rights, Nationalism, State Politics and Electoral Politics. Five research scholars have successfully completed their PhD under his supervision and another seven scholars are engaged in full time research. Prof. K Jayaprasad has been the President of All India Political Science Association from 2018-2021, after a tenure as Vice President, in 2017. He was the Vice President of Rashtriya Samaj Vigyan Parishad (RSVP) (2019-22).

Prof. Jayaprasad has been appointed by the President of India as the Non-Official Independent Director to the Board of Steel Authority of India in 2022. Same year he has been awarded the Prof. G. Ram Reddy IPSA National Award 2021 by the All India Political Science Association. He was also the Vice President of Bharatheeya Vichara Kendra, Kerala (Pranja Pravah 2013-2021), where he served as General Secretary, from 2004-2013. He was also involved with the Governing Body of State Resource Centre, Kerala and is Member, Board of Studies, of various universities, including JNU & Central University of Andhra Pradesh. As an expert member he was associated with National Bodies like UGC, ICSSR and NAAC. He has been a Peer Team Member of the NAAC as Chairman, Member Coordinator and as Member, since 2017. He was appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India as Member of the Society, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Calcutta in 2023.
