Brief Profile
Professor (Dr.) P. C. Deshmukh is a theoretical atomic physicist. Currently, he is “ANRF Prime Minister Professor” at the Central University of Kerala, Kasargod. He is also the ‘Convener and Mentor’ of the Centre for Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Sciences and Technologies (CAMOST).
Dr. Deshmukh’s research group is among the leading contributors to relativistic many-body studies of attosecond dynamics in atomic photoionization. Also, he has made important contributions to the applications of Lambert W and polylogarithm functions to problems in pure and applied physics. His recent research includes studies in quantum information science.
Dr. Deshmukh has authored two books:
(1) Foundations of Classical Mechanics
(2) Quantum Mechanics – Formulation, Methodologies, and Applications.
He is a visionary educator. He has significantly influenced teaching classical and quantum physics, especially advanced atomic physics, contributing over two hundred and fifty video lectures available online. He has taught advanced courses and guided graduate research, primarily at IIT Madras and IIT Mandi, and also at Georgia State University (Atlanta, USA), the University of Western Ontario (London, Canada), IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati, and RV University, Bengaluru. Dr. Deshmukh is the Vice-President of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers. His contributions have profoundly shaped physics pedagogy, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to inspire and elevate physics education worldwide.
