Brief Profile
Dr. Soumya Murukesh is currently serving as an Assistant Professor of English in the Department of International Relations at the Capital Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, affiliated with the Central University of Kerala. She holds postgraduate degrees in Comparative Literature and Linguistics, as well as in English Language and Literature, reflecting her strong interdisciplinary academic foundation.
She completed her M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit. Her doctoral thesis, titled “The Politics of the Literary Representation of the Mother Goddess Cult in the Rituals of Kerala,” offers a nuanced exploration of the intersections between literary representation, ritual practices, and cultural politics in Kerala.
Her areas of academic interest include Cultural Studies, Folklore Studies, Indian Literature, Postcolonial Studies, and Comparative Literature. She was awarded the prestigious Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship by the Indian Council of Social Science Research in 2021, through which she completed her postdoctoral research on “The Impact of the Feminine Rituals of Hindu Goddesses on Women in Kerala.”
Dr. Murukesh is currently undertaking a Major Research Project titled “Exploring the Cult and Philosophy of Sri Rama in Kerala Culture,” funded by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research. This project reflects her continued engagement with religion, philosophy, and cultural practices within the regional context of Kerala.
She is the recipient of the Dr. Rajashekaran Endowment Award for the Best Thesis (2017) from the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit. She has authored one book and has published approximately twenty-five research articles in reputed journals indexed in UGC-CARE and Web of Science. In addition, she has presented numerous papers at national and international seminars.
She has also worked as a translator with the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, Thrissur. With over a decade of teaching experience at the college and university levels, Dr. Murukesh continues to make significant contributions to literary and cultural studies through her research, teaching, and academic engagements.
