Brief Profile
Dr. Praveen Balabaskaran Nina obtained his B.V.Sc & A.H (1997-2002) from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research, Pondicherry and M.V.Sc (2003-05) in Avian Diseases from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Uttar Pradesh. He did his Ph.D (2005-10) in Microbiology and Immunology at Drexel University College of Medicine under Dr. Akhil Vaidya. His postdoctoral fellowship (2011-12) was at NIAID/NIH with Dr. Sanjay Desai. His Ph.D and postdoctoral training were extensively on the molecular aspects of Plasmodium falciparum, the causative agent of malaria. Before joining CUK, Dr. Praveen worked as DST-Inspire faculty (PSG IMS&R and RMRC, Belagavi), Senior Scientist (University of Washington, Seattle in their MESA-ICEMR program) and Assistant Professor (Epidemiology and Public Health, Central University of Tamil Nadu). In 2012, Dr. Praveen was the recipient of the DBT-Wellcome Trust Early Career Fellowship (not availed), DBT-Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award and DST-Inspire Faculty award, all very competitive and prestigious awards of the Indian Govt. His research interest revolves around infectious disease epidemiology, with specific focus on malaria.
