Brief Profile
Dr. Prasad Pannian is a scholar with an MA, MPhil, and PhD in English (University of Calicut) alongside UGC JRF & NET qualifications. His academic journey began as an Assistant Professor in Pondicherry (2004-2009) before joining the Central University of Kerala in 2009, where he was the founding Head of the Department of English & Comparative Literature until 2011. Since then, he has been a faculty member at the university and is presently the Coordinator of the Centre for Theory & Criticism. Dr. Pannian's notable accolades include the Edward W. Said Fellowship at the Heyman Centre for Humanities, Columbia University in the City of New York (2019), and fellowships at The New School for Social Research, New York City (2016) and School of Criticism and Theory, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York (2013). He authored Edward Said and the Question of Subjectivity (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) and its Malayalam edition (SPCS, 2017), and edited Are You Human?: A Preface to Posthuman Thinking (DC Books, 2021). He has also edited four special volumes of the Humanities Circle (International Journal of the Central University of Kerala) and critical editions of The Scarlet Letter and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Hyde (DC Books). His contributions include research articles and translations in national and international journals. Dr. Pannian's global academic engagements span institutions like the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Birkbeck Institute for Humanities, Cornell University, The New School for Social Research, University of Bologna, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, University of Macau, and Columbia University, solidifying his contributions in Cultural Studies and Critical humanities.
