Brief Profile
Dr. Prasad Pannian is Associate Professor of English & Comparative Literature and Coordinator of the Centre for Theory and Criticism at the Central University of Kerala. He holds an MA, MPhil, and PhD in English from the University of Calicut and is a UGC JRF awardee. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor in the Union Territory of Pondicherry (2004–2009), recruited through the UPSC, and joined the Central University of Kerala in 2009 as one of its founding faculty members, serving as the founding Head of the Department of English & Comparative Literature. He is the author of Edward Said and the Question of Subjectivity (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) and its Malayalam edition (SPCS, 2017), and editor of Are You Human?: A Preface to Posthuman Thinking (DC Books, 2021), as well as critical editions of The Scarlet Letter and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
He was the first recipient of the GIAN (Global Initiative for Academic Networks) award at the Central University of Kerala, a prestigious initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for hosting international faculty in Indian higher education. Dr. Pannian was Edward Said Fellow at the Heyman Center for the Humanities, Columbia University, USA (2019); Critical Theory School Fellow at the Institute for Critical Social Inquiry, The New School for Social Research, New York City, USA (2016); and was selected for the 2013 Critical Theory session of the School of Criticism and Theory at Cornell University, USA. He has published in national and international journals and undertaken academic visits and fellowships at institutions including the University of Ottawa, Carleton University (Canada), Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities (UK), Columbia University, The New School, Cornell University (USA), University of Bologna (Italy), Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and University of Munich (Germany), and the University of Macau. He currently serves as Co-editor of the Journal of Contemporary Thought (Forum for Contemporary Theory, Baroda, India).
