The Department of Commerce and International Business, School of Business Studies, Central University of Kerala, organised a two-day workshop on Taxation- a practical approach at the Sabarmati Hall. The program began at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 6th, 2023, with the University Anthem. The master of ceremony, Ms. Angel Princeton (First-year M.Com student), welcomed everyone to the program. She began with a famous quote by Henry Ford and Edward Everett Hale, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is a success.” She invited Professor (Dr) Ravi Kumar Jasti (Head, Department of Commerce and International Business) to welcome the gathering.
Professor (Dr) Ravi Kumar Jasti began his speech by welcoming the honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor H Venkateshwarlu (Central University of Kerala), Professor (Dr) Joseph Koyippally (Director of the University Placement Cell), Professor V Balachandran (Dean, School of Business), Chartered Accountant Ramakrishnan V(Resource Person), Dr. K. Sravana (Program Coordinator and Associate Professor, Department of Commerce and International Business), all other faculty members from the Department of Commerce and International Business, Department of Tourism and Management Studies, and students of departments under School of Management Studies to the two-day workshop on taxation- a practical approach. Professor (Dr) Ravi Kumar Jasti went on to say that he is very proud to tell everyone that the Department of Commerce and International Business has organised various programs on skill development, entrepreneurship development, and professional development to enrich the knowledge of students in the areas of a stock exchange, business strategies, project management, and these programs are organised every month in the department. He further told the gathering that the Department of Commerce and International Business plans to launch one consultancy service called the tax consultancy cell and project report for start-ups to facilitate faculties, staff, and new entrepreneurs. In this regard, the Department of Commerce and International Business organised the internship program on taxation and GST for all the students and hopes this workshop helps the students with a practical orientation towards taxation. Then he said that currently, there is the online filing of income tax systems and GST, and he hopes the resource person aligns students in these two areas. Professor (Dr) Ravi Kumar Jasti stated that, as commerce students, we know that taxation, unlike other subjects, is dynamic as you must learn new concepts and new projects every year as the government makes changes. He said he hopes we will get all the benefits from this program and the skills in filing income tax. He concluded his speech by thanking Dr. K. Sravana for coming up with such a program to enlighten the students and thanking the honorable Vice Chancellor for his consent to organising the program.
