Extension activity Report

The "Extension Activity" of the Department of Linguistics at the Central University of Kerala with Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Ravaneshwar, Kasaragod in Kerala is beneficial to the local community. We have identified GHSS as one of the institutions where we have collaborated. We believe such initiatives are vital as a responsible and committed research and academic group and will benefit both entities.

One of the initial activities we propose under this programme as a department that deals with languages is to help your students to understand Malayalam and English Grammar better. Apart from that, this would help the students from your school to develop an outlook about future career opportunities related to language. Besides, this proposed academic activity would also help our students focus better on teaching and learning activities in different contexts.

The Department of Linguistics at Central University of Kerala has adopted a Govt. Higher Secondary School at Raveshwar, Kasaragod for a period of one year. As part of this program, we intend to extend our activities beneficial to the surrounding institutions and thereby benefit the local community.

We also conducted programme that deals with languages is to make aware the students and teachers about the Language disorders. Dyslexia is a life-term disability that is genetic and hereditary, and which can affect both children and adults. The first important intervention for dyslexic children can be done by raising parents and teaches awareness about dyslexia and its impact on their children. Parents need to be made aware of their children conditions as early as possible so that appropriate intervention could be taken, for the wellbeing of dyslexic children, in order to improve quality of life.
