In the event of celebrating the 8th International Day of Yoga, on June 21st, 2022 the Department of Yoga Studies, Central University of Kerala has organised a grant function. Every year, Central University of Kerala celebrates International Yoga Day with much admiration providing awareness about the importance of yoga to everyone. This year, under the able guidance and support of the Hon. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. H Venkateshwarlu, with the supervision of Dr. Subramanya Pailoor, Head of the Department of Yoga Studies, in association with the NSS Cell of CUK has organised the programs from 8.00 am till 10.00 pm with three different sessions. The first session contained Yoga Common Protocol practice with the participation of around 500 members including Deans, Professors, and all other faculty members from other departments, research scholars, and students from various departments of the university. The session ended with Yoga Pledge unanimously taken by everyone present over there. The celebrations also included an official inauguration as well as cultural events depicting the importance of yoga. The theme for the current year is ‘Yoga for Humanity’. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Govinda Rao Duddukuri, Dean School of Medicine & Public Health. Hon. Vice-Chancellor Prof. H Venkateswarlu delivered the inaugural address in expressing the idea of the theme, ‘Humanity’ being the path of kindness, understanding, and helping mentality, and also felicitated the distinguished chief guests. The Chief Guests of the celebration were Dr. K. Sambath Kumar, Member, ICPR, New Delhi, to felicitate the gathering, and Vidhwan Dr. Ramachandra G Bhatt, Former Vice-Chancellor, S-VYASA University, Bengaluru to deliver the Yoga Day message that included practical session to increase Pranashakti to combine with. to understand the ‘Self.’ There was also a recorded message from Sri Sri Ravishankar Guruji, Art of Living, Banglore. A message from Consult Yoga Team has included the importance of yoga in maintaining the psychosocial well-being of Covid 19 patients in quarantine and isolation. The official inaugural session ended with the Thanking note expressed by Dr. Subramanya Pailoor, Academic Coordinator, Department of Yoga Studies. The cultural programs organised consist of performances by the students of the department of yoga studies that included both solo and duet performances, semi-classical dance, Sanskrit song as well as the Yoga Dance.
