International Day of Yoga-2021


The department of Yoga Studies in association with the NSS cell Central University of Kerala conducted the 7th International Day of Yoga program on 21st of June, 2021 from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. In light of the pandemic the program were conducted virtually. This year International day of yoga is celebrated in the theme “Yoga for well-being- Be with yoga, Be at home”.

The Honourable Vice Chancellor Central University of Kerala Prof. H Venkateshwarlu inaugurated the function virtually. He spoke on the importance of yoga for physical and mental health of individual. He stressed on practicing Pranayama to reduce the stress people are facing. He concluded with a note to start yoga practice for all the students & staffs in the university. The chief guest for the function Prof. K. Subrahmanyam, Pro Chancellor S-VYASA, Bangalore addressed the audience. He spoke on the importance of practicing the principles of yoga in the current pandemic. He pointed that yoga has intrinsic value and is the treasure of our country which we should embrace. In the message for the day he pointed out the relevance of yoga for mental and physical health in the sedentary life style.

Students, teaching and non-teaching staff joined the virtual program. The yoga department is taking initiative to guide the students, teaching and non- teaching staff of the university to practice Yoga techniques to strengthen the physical health and to relieve from stress. In concurrence to the day, Department of yoga studies is conducting free online yoga classes for the school children and college students of different age groups , throughout India; being committed to the society as well.

Dr Rajendra Pilankatta, Registrar (i/c), Central University of Kerala, Prof. K P Suresh, Dean Academics and Dr Ranjith Kumavath, NSS cell Coordinator, Central University of Kerala were present in the occasion. Dr Subramanya Pailoor, Academic Co- ordinator, Department of yoga studies delivered the vote of thanks. Followed by Dr Vrinda Madhavan, faculty. Department of yoga studies, Central University of Kerala introduced the common yoga practice protocol to all and the students of yoga department conducted yoga activities.
