10th International Day of Yoga, 21st June, 2024
On the event of 10th International Day of Yoga, on June 21st 2024, Central University of Kerala had organized a grand function under Department of Yoga Studies. Every year, the Central University of Kerala celebrates International Day of Yoga with much admiration providing awareness about the importance of Yoga to everyone. This year, Department of Yoga Studies under the able guidance and support of the Hon. Vice-Chancellor (i/c), Prof. Vincent Mathew with the supervision of Dr. Subramanya Pailoor, Head, Department of Yoga Studies, in association with the NSS cell of CUK, had organized the programs from 8:00 am to 10:00 am with two sessions. The first session included Common Yoga Protocol practice with the participation of around 400 members, including Deans, Heads, Professors, and all the faculty members, research scholars, students and non-teaching staffs from various departments of the University. After completing the Common Yoga Protocol Practice ended with a Yoga Pledge unanimously taken by everyone present, students of the Department of Yoga Studies, Central University of Kerala, performed group yoga demonstrations, artistic performance and a Bharatanatyam dance. The second session started with welcome address, delivered by Dr. Subramanya Pailoor, Head, Department of Yoga Studies, School of Medicine & Public Health. Vice Chancellor (i/c) of Central University of Kerala Prof. Vincent Mathew delivered the presidential address in expressing the idea of the theme, “Yoga for Self and Society” which is the theme of International Yoga Day in 2024. He expressed that the festivities surrounding International Yoga Day seek to raise awareness of the holistic benefits of yoga and to promote it as a daily practice for better health all around the world. The Vice-Chancellor (i/c) felicitated the chief guest of the celebration, Prof. K. Subrahmanyam, Advisor, S-VYASA Bengaluru, who gave a Yoga Day message emphasizing that Yoga is multidimensional, providing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. He mentioned that through meditation, we can control our 'monkey mind,' leading to the integral growth of human beings. Prof. K. Subrahmanyam also highlighted that OM chanting can develop creativity, cognitive skills, and academic performance, and encouraged the promotion of yoga across all the departments through interdepartmental programmes. The presence of Dr. Jayaprakash R., Registrar (i/c), Controller of Examination and Finance Officer, CUK, Prof. Mathew George, Dean, School of Medicine and Public Health, CUK, Prof. Govinda Rao Duddukuri, Former Dean and Chairman of the 10th IDY Committee, CUK, and Dr. Anbazhagi, NSS Program Officer, CUK, added to the success of this event. Additionally, the Department of Yoga Studies represented its presence in various educational institutions, including Chinmaya School, Kanhangad; Chinmaya School, Kasaragod; Navodaya School, Periya; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanhangad; Sadguru School, Kanhangad, and many more places.
The official program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. M. Anjaladevi, Assistant Professor, Department of Yoga Studies, Central University of Kerala.
