Centre for Women's Studies
The Central University of Kerala proposed to establish a Centre for Women’s Studies in March 2018 and the Centre was launched on 25th April 2018. The University is located in a rural area, where higher education is still a dream for many women. However, despite this, the University has succeeded in attracting more female students than male students. Interestingly, a majority of these students are from marginalized and minority communities. So, creating gender consciousness and making them aware about their rights is essential. The Centre for Women’s Studies initially started working with a team of 7 members in the advisory Committee which was rechristened and reconstituted in 2021 with 11 members in the Executive Committee. Centre organizes Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, public lectures, invited talks, sensitization programmes to create gender awareness among the staff and students of university. Research on gender specific areas and gender audit are also taken up the Centre.
The Centre for Women's Studies was launched under the School of Humanities on 25 th April 2018.
